Mustique is two square miles of green hill, ringed by white-sand beaches, with about a hundred private villas hidden in the trees. Princess Margaret had a house here. David Bowie built another. The island is owned and run by the Mustique Company, which keeps things quiet — no cruise ships, no day-trippers, no commercial development. For yachts, this means a small, exquisite anchorage and the best beach-bar in the Grenadines.
We sail in from Canouan in two to three hours, pick up a mooring in Britannia Bay opposite the village, and tender ashore. Lunch at Basil's Bar — the open-air, over-the-water bar that's been the social centre of the island since 1976. Macaroni Beach on the windward side (a short tender run or a 20-minute walk through the village) is the best swim beach on the island.
The day works best on a Wednesday — Basil's Wednesday Jump-Up is the classic visit, with live steel-pan band and the village out in force. Other days are quieter and equally beautiful. Late afternoon return to Canouan, golden light on the windward side of the island as we sail home.
Highlights of this charter
Britannia Bay anchorage
The main mooring field opposite the village. Calm in settled trades, walking distance to Basil's via the dinghy dock.
Basil's Bar
The legendary over-the-water bar in the village. Lunch any day works without a reservation; Wednesday Jump-Up is the famous night.
Macaroni Beach
The best swim beach on the island. Long stretch of white sand on the windward side, only one beach restaurant (the Mustique Beach Café), waves on a swell day.
Quiet by design
No cruise ships, no day-trippers, no commercial development. The Mustique Company controls access — yachts get a calmer experience than any other Grenadine.

What's the route?
We leave Canouan around 9 AM, sail north to Mustique in two-to-three hours. Mooring in Britannia Bay, tender ashore for lunch at Basil's. Afternoon at Macaroni Beach if the day permits. Return sail to Canouan in the late afternoon, back at Sandy Lane Marina by 6 PM.
Can we eat at Basil's without a reservation?
Lunch generally yes — the bar is walk-in friendly. Dinner needs a phone call ahead, especially on Wednesdays. We coordinate from the dispatch.
What's the best day to visit?
Wednesday for the Jump-Up if guests want the social scene. Other days are quieter — the village, the beaches, and Basil's are all open. Sunday is the most popular Sunday brunch on the island.
Can we visit the villas or the inland?
Mustique is a private community — non-resident villa visits are not generally available. The village, Basil's, and the public beaches are open to yacht guests. Mules (the island's electric carts) can be hired for a tour with a few hours' notice.
Mustique is the most-requested single-day charter from Canouan. Tell us your date and we will hold Flying Wing for you. Reply within the day.
